CA Bhavani Devi is the first-ever Indian fencer to compete in the Olympics. Bhavani Devi was not able to attend the ceremony conducted for athletes at Rashtrapathi Bhawan, as at that time she was in France for a fencing competition.
Bhavani Devi was awarded the Arjuna award as she represented India for fencing in Asian Olympics 2021.
In Tokyo Olympics, Bhavani Devi won sabre of Sixty four rounds against Ben Azizi from Tunisiafor 15-3. And the Final round for Bhavani Devi was with Manon brunet where she lost in the round of 32.
Along with Bhavani Devi, there were 35 other sportsmen who received the honourable Arjuna award. Bhavani Devi received the award from the sports minister Anurag Thakur
